Lit The Stage – A Platform for Young Artistes

Our team at SultanGate.sg will soon debut a monthly segment, Lit The Stage. This will be a platform for young talents to showcase their works in our SultanGate.sg studio on Haji Lane. Imagine a diverse group of youths performing each month, from original songs to poetry, monologues to paintings, even magic shows if they may.

Weʼre all geared up for all the excitement but before that, we sat down with 2 young members of our team who may soon head this segment;

Chelsea, who is now a student, first picked up music at just 3 years old, taking a weekly violin lesson near home. Chelsea is a local Chinese who enjoys a more liberal but considerate life. Growing up, she was often introduced and exposed by to the multi-cultural society in Singapore. The Sup Tulang (bone marrow soup) at nearby Beach Road happens to be her favourite of Singaporeʼs diverse eating culture. Chelsea also enjoys mixing around with some Malay friends who help her pick up some basic Malay phrases and slangs. This better encourages her love for this multi-racial society.

At first glance, Wanie is a shy and reserved Malay girl from a mainstream Muslim family . She believes that the living circumstances she has faced helped shape her independent and resourceful mind. Wanie is a self-taught photographer who built her skills over the internet .

With 2 very different character and personalities, weʼre wondering what helps this unexpected duo work hand in hand on this project.

They both agree that the arts is a universal language. Music, according to Chelsea, breaks the barriers of language and has the power to send a message without words. It gets you moving to the beat, and even when you cannot translate what it means, you know how it feels. Wanie believes that music can both be artistic and spiritual, and that translates through the lenses. This is what that has helped the duo to cross their barriers and work in each otherʼs worlds.

Chelsea and Wanie are both excited to present the monthly Lit The Stage programme and hope that more young talents will climb onboard to share their talents with the crowd. They are also looking forward to see what others have in store for them to learn from just as well. Lit The Stage will be held on every last Friday of the month, starting 29 June 2018.
