Final stop for the week, we were at the SoGelam Market x One Kampong Gelam Communal Iftar on Baghdad Street. This annual affair is a movement by the One Kampong Gelam committee, along with the support of businesses in the area to give back to the community. This year, we saw a group of over 50 resident elder beneficiaries of the nearby Jalan Besar GRC enjoying the Iftar along with guestof-honour, Ms Denise Phua, Mayor of Central Singapore. They were treated to trays of Nasi Ambeng (a Malay mixed rice platter), Bandung (Rose milk cordial) to quench their thirst and some sweet treats for desserts. The residents were overwhelmed with joy and gratitude over the wonderful meal prepared, and neither were they empty-handed. Shops and businesses in the area also played their part in gathering some donations that were given out in envelopes to all the invited beneficiaries.
It is moments like this in the month of Ramadhan that warms our hearts. Though it might not be the only month to share oneʼs happiness with the world, it most definitely is a time to give a little more whilst we can. Weʼre looking forward to more heartwarming stories so we may share with all you readers. Do keep us in mind as we bring to you more stories of Sultan Gate and its people.
