Aliwal Street

The heart of performing art activities is here at Aliwal Street – the home of Aliwal Arts Centre. The street would come alive during the annual Aliwal Night Crawl and Aliwal Urban Art Festival during pre-Covid days. Myriad of performances were held along the street as well as the adjacent car park. It became a skate boarding arena for the youth, ‘live’ cultural performances and a rock concert.

Here, you can also marvel at the beautiful façade of a boutique hotel, The Sultan (main entrance via Jalan Sultan) – the winner of 2012 URA Architectural Heritage Award. Some of the shophouses still maintain their vintage charms and this further adds to the laid-back atmosphere of the street.
