Featuring Lit the Stage & Open Mic

Sultangate Music Festival (SGMF)returned to The Malay Heritage Centre for the second year running – this time with a wider reach.

The Festival which ran from 7to 9 September 2018 continues to feature 4 categories of music : Bohemian, Spiritual, Ethnic and New Age music. A new Open Mic segment was introduced to this year’s festival – a special slot for novices as well as veteran musicians, regardless of age or talent, to unleash their talents to the audience in a casual atmosphere.

SGMF also had the support of One Kampong Gelam (OKG), the association that manages the Kampong Gelam precinct.

The festival officially kicked off on Friday, 7th September 2018, at 6.30pm by a performance by The Lost Hat which showcased their Bohemian line-up of original compositions inspired by Gypsy music. Alwehdah took centre stage later in the eveining with their pure Samrah (South Yemeni) folk and modern Arabic music. Veda9 took the prime time spot on Saturday night with their holistic, therapeutic repertoire The festival featured four young singers / composers in Lit The Stage on Sunday, accompanied by a few veteran musicians who were just eager to support these young talents.
