Spatula - Fun and vibrant desserts parlour
With the start of Ramadhan, we welcomed one more neighbour to the Sultan Gate community last week. It seems that the hustle and bustle in this town has just gotten more exciting. A colourful and eclectic desserts parlour, Spatula on Baghdad Street opened their doors last Saturday. And guess what? They specialise in desserts. We love! It was obvious. We had to sit down with the owner, Arianna to find out more.
This humble venture has been run for about 5 years now and started off as an online bakery. Barely a month after they set sail, it was brought to their attention that the governmentʼs rulings for food business commands for Spatula to set up a physical shop. Since then, it has run in areas such as Joo Chiat and Frankel, before they chose to set up here on Baghdad St. With a following of over 40,000 on Instagram, it came to no surprise that they were already filled by the second day of re-opening.
Why Baghdad Street?
Arianna shares that her husband has held sentiments to the area since back in his schooling times, some 15 years back. They also find the popularity and accessibility of the area, as well the artsy cosmopolitan feel of it all, best fit the demographics they were hoping to attract. True enough, we found the space already filled with some cheerful young adults as early as 3pm. They had us at menu. We were drooling away as we scanned through their selection, from Red Velvet waffles to Bandung milkshakes. Arianna reckoned we try the Funfetti, a cotton candy-flavoured milkshake which, by the way, was super delish! The looks of it somehow reminds me of a unicorn, Iʼm sure many will agree. The taste was so good, beyond what words alone could describe. It is thick, creamy, smooth and all-round, bursting with flavours. And as it slants bit to the sweeter side, we will definitely recommend it to all sweet tooths out there. We hope more young ventures like Spatula continue to grow and prosper around Sultan Gate. This bright and colourful district only has a brighter future
